influences

"influences" don wright 2012

My coach told me that clearly my move to northern ontario has had a major influence on my art. I draw what I know. I draw what I see through my rose colored glasses. At the heart is love. I see the world with loving eyes. I feel the influence of my surroundings. The grouse, the thunderbird, the sun and circles are all representative of life and freedom and love and peace and contentment and connectivity with Spirit and each other. They are representations of the ideal  that we are all one and that all is well.

Of course I read the papers and watch the news and I am quite aware of the "sickness" that pervades humanity. I choose to counter act this negative with the positive. I cast these doodles out to the cyberworld and to the walls of anyone who asks with the intent to beautify and bring quiet humble peace if only for a moment.

Blessings

I play acoustic guitar and sing. I live in Sturgeon Falls and I am looking for musicians to jam with. Fiddle/bass/dobro/banjo/mandolin musicians would be great! I need to play!!!! recorded this tonight for a sample http://youtu.be/TPCUfqo5ARc ...callme..lets jam!

I posted this add in kijiji north bay and sudbury. I decided enough is enough already......I need to play. I have been without a band for 3 years now. I'm forgetting all the words to the songs I once knew and my fingers are getting old and stiff. Clearly its time.
I had a few responses to my ad. I am pleased with the results, in fact, I'm excited. I know this is unfolding even better than I had imagined.
I am reminded of something a friend said: "If you turn your eyes from it, it will go away" I got to thinking that if you turn your eyes to it, it will materialize. Sometimes I am not certain if it is my will and desire that makes things happen,or if I have premonition to that which was going to happen anyway. Perhaps both? Perhaps living in spirit is why I am constantly blessed even beyond my expectations.

don wright music

Here is a collection of songs I recorded on my web cam.
Music is Art

oooops...is there something wrong with me?

Ok, so I think I might be a duffus. Last night I was singing a song and decided to change the lyrics a little. The song originally said "my favorite woman is 5'3" with long black hair and green eyes" I decided to sing it to my wife and change the words to "my favorite woman is 5'10" with Brown hair and blue eyes" My wife smiled and told me I got it wrong. I said...well I'm not really sure what color your hair is because its been a bunch of different colors. She smiled and said "you dont even know the color of my eyes"......ooops. She said.."my eyes are hazel"....what the heck is that? She told its like green. So, to avoid further problems, I'm going to edit the words of the song to "my favorite woman is 5'10" with brown hair and green eyes" Of course I was embarrassed  My wife said "I should let you keep my fishing license, that way you will know my credentials....hahaha. Now that makes sense.

How is it that I could love a girl all my life and be intimate with her for 30 years and not even know the color of her eyes? Have we not discussed this before? Surely I must have looked at her fishing license!

I remember losing my son at a Zellers store. The clerk asked me.....what was he wearing? I thought how should I know...or rather...I should know that answer...but I didnt. I vowed that I should always be observant of these details. A couple of months later I lost him at the Toronto Zoo and they asked the same darn question. Embarrassed I had to admit I didnt know what he was wearing. I dont even know what I wore yesterday and if you asked me what I was wearing today, I would have to look and then tell you.

It suddenly dawned on me...Its November...something happens in Nov. Yes My mother in law died on the day after remembrance day. I was introduced to the greatest depth of sorrow I had ever experienced and I still cry today. I have to quickly change the subject.....something else happens in Nov...yes..my brothers birthday. Nov 14. I must remember to contact him. If I forget mt sister will remind me and as a backup, facebook will remind me.

I am going grouse hunting first this saturday AM. I will spend the night in a cabin in the bush, and hunt again on my way out. I will gather a feast for my queen.....the queen with  hazel eyes.

Daniel Trask - One Year

About a year ago I was contacted by the parents of Daniel Trask. Their son had gone missing and they suspected he would be in Temagami. They did a google search and came up with a link to my blog page. They contacted me to ask for a little assistance in getting connected with some people who might be able to help. Information was posted on ottertooth.com and friends of temagami facebook. Soon there were many people offering love and assistance. Daniel Trask became adopted into so many families at that time. Having walked the bush, scouted abandoned cabins, scoured spirit rock, I too felt as though Daniel was my brother.
We are kindred spirits and Daniel belongs to a very large family now.

"Tree of Life" Daniel Trask 2011

The day before Daniel left on his journey, he drew this picture. Daniel was an artist at heart. He was a creative craftsman with a pen or a knife or even a rock and some cloth. Daniel knew that our life was but art and he freely expressed it. This is a beautiful rendition of the tree of life. It is hauntingly simple and humble. This looks to me to be a birch tree. There is no shortage of birch in Temagami. The birch tree was used and revered by our first nations. Sap to drink, paper to create everything from baskets to canoes to housing. The birch is loved by the beaver, who finds sustenance in its tender branches. Grouse pick at the new seed pods. The birch is indeed a tree of life in Temagami, and Daniel has made this drawing alive by its very recognition.

On Daniels birthday, I drew this drawing. It is a prayer doodle. As the lines flowed I prayed for Daniel and his family. I prayed for protection and understanding. I wanted to celebrate our magnificent connection through spirit. I wanted to recognize and put everything under the glorious light of the creator and hand it over. What could I really do? With so many people helping and searching I felt physically inadequate.

Explore Magazine had a very great article on Daniels disappearance. The backdrop photo to the article was this picture I took at the Changing of the Seasons ceremony 2011. I was very honored and marveled at the fact that I even had pictures of Daniel.

Daniel paddled into the Changing of the Season Ceremony like a true expert. He had command and comfort of himself and his vessel. I remember my wife and friends watching him in admiration as he landed at the ceremony site. After the ceremony, I couldnt help but see the expression on his face as he ate potluck. He was so captivating to me that I took these photos. I thought that he was an old friend of Temagami and had no idea that this was his first visit to Obabika.

"one year" don wright 2012

So here we are, one year later. One year of concerns from an ever growing family. One year  of prayers, thoughts and vigils. One year of uncertainty, and for the immediate family.....one year of tears. One year of wondering and hoping. One year of seasons.

One year feels like a lifetime when you are waiting and wanting and one year is but a single breath in the arms of the creator.

creative wonder

"young thunderbird doodle" don wright 2012

Young Thunderbird is innocent, and child like. We begin life full of creative wonder until it is beaten out of us. We learn to stifle that creativity within as we begin to see ourselves through the eyes of others. We become afraid to express our inner child. Symbolically for me, Thunderbird represents that moment in time when we are fully and completely comfortable with who we are in relation to the creator. At that point we have true freedom. This means that I could attend a meeting of high rolling Bay street executives, walk up to the whiteboard, draw young thunderbird with one line, and smile as I get escorted by security.

I am reminded of a story about Norval Morrisseau. Someone was overheard saying that his child could paint just a well and Norval said Yes thats true....but you couldn't. I couldn't either until I was comfortable enough to fail without concern.

Finally Saw an Otter!

"otter in the morning"

wOw! yAy!
 I finally saw an otter!
I have been told there are otters on our river. Friends have seen them. I have seen all the evidence. I have searched with the expressed desire to see one but to no avail. For three years I have been keeping my eyes peeled for a sight of one of these creatures. Finally this morning my wife exclaimed with joy as she looked out our picture window. There on a log, right beside our dock stood a beautiful river otter. It was eating and playing in the river and sat on that log for us to see.
He slipped back into the river and he was gone.
I should have taken a picture so I drew it instead.

on a mission

"on a mission" don wright 2012

I have had more and more interest in my art. I am gearing up for some art shows. I have managed to build a little bit of an inventory and not give them all away. I have been playing with giclee canvas reproductions. I have been trying to standardize my framing. I have a mass of idea doodles just waiting to express themselves in color. I have been busy cataloging my art at http://waabaanakwad.blogspot.com . I have been moving forward at break neck speed, AND, at this pace I should be ready sometime soon in the year 2015...haha.

As you may have noticed, I am a little manic. I am also a little Attention deficited. I tend to jump in with both feet and then get distracted. My art tends to be off the cuff and quick and I really should spend some time to perfect my images. Having said that, I have surrendered to time. Time is just something that happens. Time is infinite. I am going to live forever anyway. These lines are my vibrations and I will vibrate my way through life  and become one with the biggest vibration that you could possibly imagine. I will be joining the angels choir and spend my days making beautiful music for the creator.

Transformation - Electronic Art

"transformation" copyright don wright 2012

Is there a place for electronics in art? I cringed the first time I heard a drum machine, yet began to groove as I accepted the sound. I began to use the drum machine and midi sounds to create new sounds and serve as inspiration. Now we hear what electronics can do and many of us dont even realize it. Go to a recording studio and see, I should say hear for yourself. The computer is a valuable and acceptable tool in music.

How about art? Somehow I can't help but fear there is something disingenuous about using a graphics program to create art. Yet, digitization has proven to be an excellent tool for reproducing and correcting. Posters, pictures, reproductions have all been touched by graphics programs.

I took a simple "man changes into thunderbird" doodle and I scanned the picture, and used a variety of programs to manipulate the digital data. Above is the result. The piece studies creation and transformation.

I am astounded at how mathematics and fractal equations play so heavily in creation. What is seemingly chaotic is actually very well organized and can be explained through mathematical equations. Patterns repeat themselves over and over, each time changing minutely in order to reach equilibrium. There is a source, there is transformation and there is a divine destination. This pattern is being repeated over and over, from the big bang until the end of time. It becomes relevant to us as we transform to the likeness of the creator; perfect and complete.
