Peterborough Petroglyths

The Peterborough Petroglyphs are a remarkable collection of over 900 ancient images carved into crystalline limestone located near Peterborough in Ontario, Canada.

The limestone at Peterborough is generally believed to have been carved by the Algonkian people between 900 and 1400 AD. Today, the First Nations people of Ontario call the carvings Kinomagewapkong, meaning "the rocks that teach."

The area surrounding the petroglyphs was established as Petroglyphs Provincial Park in 1976.

  1. I buried this comment here because it's just meant for you.

It's not as creepy as you think. Check the post mark on the envelope. To put your wife at ease, I didn't scour the internet for your address. I pulled it off an old hardcopy of the EVAC directory. Far less tech savvy than you imagined.

Part of why I would wail so hard on blogger Jason was that he would pontificate on people he never met from afar with no regard for how his messages were received. He didn't impart his understanding for the benefit of others only for his own self-righteousness and that really pissed me off. Not to mention, he was wacked! (Pot calling the kettle...)

While I disagreed with Jake's interpretation of the bible I respected the man, his family and the effort he made.

I read your blog often. You publish regularly and you write honestly. You are sincerely contemplative about God, a joy to find in anyone. If I read a verse with friends(who I love dearly, respect deeply and consider Godly in every way) asking "what do you think that means?" I find it hard to get a God-inspired understanding. And maybe because writing can allow more time to think. I don't know. But while I may disagree with you on many things, the ability to discuss them and share ideas and for you to give them consideration is a precious gift to me.

My wife doesn't want to undersand what I understand because so much of it conflicts with the messages taught in church and certainly doesn't want me share what I understand with my children but I'm okay with that. If that is God's will, then so be it. To her, God is more than understanding. God is about people. In that she is absolutely right and a million times better at it than I. To her, being a good person to others is more important than being right about anything and for 2,000 years at least, I wouldn't disagree.

Writing anonymously allows me to have friends who are good people regardless of our biblical differences, to walk a town I love without being judged and my kids to not be judged by their friends at church for what their father believes. It also means that what I say isn't discarded outright because of the man but discarded or not only after being considered. It allows me to share and get back honest thoughts.
