Day Two - Trip to the Ahnisnabae Art Gallery

"Returning to Our Roots" 1996 Copyright Louise Thomas

I went to the Ahnisnabae Art Gallery while visiting in Thunder Bay. What an awesome gallery! The owner and operator is Louise Thomas. She is the wife of now departed Roy Thomas. It was such an honour and a pleasure to meet her.
.
I purchased this humble print from Louise Thomas. It is called Returning to our Roots. It is number 410/530 and it is signed by Roy Thomas. It was created in 1996. I really love this print. I love how the Spirit connects and embraces. I love the eyes. Each one humble, innnocent, and fixed on creator. First the fishes (water) and then the bears (earth) and then the birds (air). Each one individual yet in harmony and balance with each other.
.
There is a certificate with the artists intent explained. Its a great story. Also, there is a small Bio on Roy Thomas included. Louise still has a number of these left as well as a pretty amazing collection of her late husbands work. She also has a number of really nice Giclees, art cards, T-shirts and prints.
.
Louise was kind enough to show me her private collection. I was stunned and amazed at the beauty and perfection of Roy's work. I gained a deeper appreciation for Woodland Art. I also developed a much deeper respect for Roy Thomas. You have no idea how much of a priveledge it was to be shown such a depth of his work...up close...personal.
.
I was well aware of the Ahnisnabae Art Gallery as I enjoy her website. This is how I came to know about Louise and many of the Woodland Artists who make up her fine collection. I have surfed that page for hours. The site URL is http://www.ahnisnabae-art.com/ Its worth the surf.
.
Oh and I gave Louise a freindship turtle. Patti.....she had a good idea. Louise thought it would make a cool broach. One could fasten a stick pin or clasp on the back side of the turtle and it could be worn on a coat. Artists minds eh..always thinkin.
.
The story doesnt end there, but it does end for now.......
peace and joy
