While I was away in the city, Sue was visited by a very large "hawk". She was unable to identify it in our bird book. She descriped white patch/band on tail and small white patch on wings.
Last evening, while ATVing, I came across a large "hawk" which I had never seen before. It was too big to be a hawk, yet it seemed small to be an eagle. When it flew overhead, the description matched my wifes description. I think it is an immature Golden Eagle.
The Golden Eagle is widely dispersed on North America and even asia and africa. It is however rare. I read of a reported siting an hour south of us. The preferred habitat is a lot like where I saw it. Rocky outcrops with grassy pasture in remote areas.
I will have to keep my eyes peeled as next time the siting will be more informed.
