Water Meter on the Sturgeon River near Glen Afton
Sturgeon River from Glen Afton to Sturgeon Falls
Spring rain and winter bush thaw collided to empty the north in a hurry. Water levels and volume rose considerably. This "wall" of water took trees, stumps. ice, docks, debris etc all the way from the upper reaches to Sturgeon Falls. Remarkebly the watewr was up by about 5 feet in the upper reaches and a whopping 15 feet at the dam in Sturgeon Falls, while our place only experienced a one foot rise in level. Our stretch of the river is very deep and there are many tributaries and swamps to handle the overflow.
